Battlefield 6 Update 2.1.1.0 Patch Notes: Anti-Air Bites Back as Scout Helis Get Cut

Season 5 brought Vegas, but Update 2.1.1.0 brought the real shake-up: deadlier anti-air, weaker helicopter rockets, less controller recoil help and faster REDSEC plating.

For a year, the sound of a Scout Helicopter cresting a ridge meant one thing to infantry: get inside or get rockets. The pilot was rarely in danger. The Mobile AA crew on the other side of the map was mostly decoration. Battlefield 6 Update 2.1.1.0 is the patch where DICE finally says that out loud, and the Battlefield 6 Update 2.1.1.0 patch notes read like a correction memo to every air superiority argument the community has had since launch.

The update shipped today, October 13, alongside Season 5: Siege of Vegas. The new maps and guns get the trailers. The balance sheet underneath is what will change how your next 50 matches play.

The short version

  • Update 2.1.1.0 began downloading at 8:00 UTC on October 13, with Season 5 content unlocking at 12:00 UTC.
  • Anti-air gets a full rework: Mobile AA turret rotation is up 50%, and every AA shell hits harder, flies faster and converges closer.
  • Light attack aircraft get nerfed: light rockets now need 7 hits to kill a Scout Helicopter (was 4), and FFAR splash damage is cut 30%.
  • Gamepad recoil compensation drops from 11% to 5%, a quiet change controller players will feel immediately.
  • REDSEC gets 20% faster armor plating, rebuilt class training, and the removal of the Hazmat Breacher and Drone Operator trainings.
  • New weapons: Mk 24, RSPR, Z84M and ELR-40, plus a free trial from October 15 to 19 on PlayStation and Steam.

When does Battlefield 6 Update 2.1.1.0 go live?

According to EA's official patch notes, the download started at 8:00 UTC on Tuesday, October 13 on all platforms, and Season 5 content unlocked at 12:00 UTC the same day. EA did not list a download size. A free trial runs October 15 to 19 on PlayStation and Steam with all maps and modes, and the Dead Space: Convergence event follows from October 20 to November 7.

What changed for anti-air in the Battlefield 6 Update 2.1.1.0 patch notes?

Everything. DICE's stated goal is blunt: "Overall, we designed the balance updates in 2.1.1.0 to make anti-air systems more lethal and reliable."

The Mobile AA turret now rotates 50% faster, projectile drag falls from 0.0025 to 0.0015, first-person zoom is stronger, and max range sits around 800m. The bigger story is the ammunition. Here is how the three AA shells changed against the targets that matter most:

Shell vs Infantry vs Helicopters vs Jets Velocity (m/s) Convergence
35mm High Velocity AA 13 to 25 26 to 45 32.5 to 62.5 1,175 to 1,250 300m to 90m
Multi-Purpose AA Shell 13 to 34 65 to 61.2 65 to 85 850 to 1,175 300m to 115m
Anti-Armor AA Shell 20 to 50 100 to 90 100 to 125 560 to 900 300m to 150m

A few details jump out. The 35mm High Velocity AA loses its overheat penalty (it was 0.5 seconds), though heat per shot climbs from 3.6% to 13%. The Anti-Armor AA Shell doubles its rate of fire from 240 to 480 RPM while its magazine halves from 8 to 4 and reload time halves from 2.4 to 1.2 seconds. The General Purpose AA no longer fires in burst mode. The stationary GDF-009 cannon jumps from 720 to 1,100 RPM but trades raw helicopter damage (110 to 61.2) for a much tighter spread.

Notice the trend against light targets. Quads and motorcycles take brutal increases across the board (the Anti-Armor shell goes from 52 to 250). Dirt bikes on Area 51 are going to learn about this the hard way.

Our read: jets got the biggest damage bump, helicopters got a smaller one or even a slight cut per shell, but faster projectiles and tighter convergence mean far more of those shells actually land. AA is no longer a skill tax. It is a real job.

How did Update 2.1.1.0 nerf helicopters?

DICE named the problem directly: "Light attack aircraft, specifically the Scout Helicopter, are considered too effective vs infantry with their rockets."

The fixes:

  • Light rockets now need more hits to kill helicopters: Scout 4 to 7, Attack 5 to 9, Transport 11 to 15.
  • FFAR light rocket splash damage is cut 30%, and rocket pod resupply grows from 28 to 38 seconds.
  • The Heavy Rotary MG glass penetration damage against soldiers drops from 0.8x to 0.3x.

DICE also wanted infantry to have answers, writing that "low-altitude aircraft previously felt too safe from infantry threats." A planned MANPADS change for low-flying aircraft was not shipped because it needs more iteration, so treat that part as unfinished.

Tanks, gadgets and the gamepad recoil change

Armor got sharper rules rather than raw buffs. MBTs and IFVs now take 8 seconds to go from critical to full health (MBT was 6.66s, IFV was 7s), and firing your main gun resets the 12 second regeneration delay. Rear hits at 86 to 94 degrees now deal 2.5x damage, so flanking matters more than ever.

On the gadget side, the LTLM II laser designation lasts 2 seconds instead of 9, which guts the lock-and-forget play for guided launchers. The SLM-93A Spire can no longer fire from the hip. M15 AV Mines can finally be placed while prone, stop floating, and only trigger on transports by direct wheel contact.

Then the one that will start forum fights: gamepad recoil compensation falls from 11% to 5%. EA's notes carry no developer explanation, only the changelog line. The SVDM also gets a much wider recoil direction (4 to 20 degrees), and the SU-230 LPVO stops reducing visual recoil on six weapons including the M433 and M250. If you built around those, check our earlier Battlefield 6 weapon meta breakdown and expect it to shift.

Our read: halving aim assist on recoil is the most consequential infantry change in this patch for console players, and it arrived without a single sentence of reasoning. That deserves a dev answer.

What changed in REDSEC with Update 2.1.1.0?

DICE admitted that "armor replating could at times feel a bit too slow or punishing." Plating is now 20% faster by default in Battle Royale and Rapid Royale, plus another 12% with Quick Plating.

Class training was rebuilt for Season 5:

Class Gadgets Standout perk
Assault Assault Ladder, HE Grenade Launcher L2: 50% faster regen, 50% more healing
Engineer Repair Tool, Aim-Guided Launcher L1: +33% explosive resistance
Support Supply Pouch, Deployable Cover L2: revives 2.5s quicker
Recon Motion Sensor, Handheld Jammer L3: jammer disrupts enemy redeploys

The Hazmat Breacher and Drone Operator trainings are gone. DICE says Recon "is now committed to localized intel gathering and intel sabotage in Battle Royale." Sniper and DMR reserve capacity drops from 70 to 60, and several 5.56, 5.45, 7.62, 9mm, 10mm and .300BLK weapons now need one more bullet to kill armored targets at certain ranges.
