Terms of Service

The short version

• This is a free community. There is nothing to buy and nothing to subscribe to.
• Be decent to people. That is the whole culture, and it is enforced.
• You own what you post. We can show it on our site and channels, and we can take it down.
• We are veteran run and completely independent. No government agency is behind this.
• We can remove anyone who makes this place worse.

What this is

Crayons N Controllers is a gaming community. Membership, game nights, the roster and tournament entry are free. We do not charge dues, we do not sell memberships, and no purchase is ever required to take part in anything we run.

By using this site or taking part in our events you agree to these terms.

We are not a government site

Crayons N Controllers is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to the Department of Defense, any branch of the armed forces, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or any federal, state or local agency, fire department, police department or EMS service. Nothing on this site is an official communication from any of them.

Your account

Accounts are created by signing in with Discord. One account per person. You are responsible for everything done through your account, so do not share it, sell it, rent it or hand it to somebody else.

You must be at least 13, or the minimum age Discord requires where you live if that is higher.

How to behave

One rule covers most of it: do not be a jerk. Specifically, the following will get you removed, usually without warning:

• Harassment, hate speech, slurs, threats, or targeting anyone over race, religion, sex, gender, orientation, disability or service background.
• Any sexual content involving minors, and any sexual content directed at someone who did not ask for it.
• Doxxing or sharing anyone's private information, including screenshots of private messages.
• Claiming service, rank, awards or a department you did not earn.
• Cheating, hacks, exploits, boosting for hire, or selling or buying accounts.
• Spam, scams, phishing, crypto pitches and unsolicited advertising.
• Anything illegal, and anything that would get us or our members in legal trouble.

Community leads and admins make the call. We do not run a court system and we are not obligated to explain a removal in detail.

Content you post

You keep ownership of your clips, screenshots, posts and profile text. By posting them here you give us permission to display them on this site and to repost them on our own channels with credit to you. You can ask us to take something down and we will.

You promise that what you post is yours to post and does not infringe anyone else's rights. We can remove any content, for any reason, at any time.

Our name and artwork

The Crayons N Controllers name, crest and artwork belong to us. Do not use them to represent yourself as us, to endorse something, or to sell merchandise, without written permission.

Verification and Crayon status

A verified member here is called a Crayon. You ask on the website, a moderator reviews the request, and on approval the bot gives you the matching Discord role. Moderators make the call from what you tell them, and it is a judgment call, not a legal determination. We do not accept documents through the website, so do not send any.

Crayon status is an internal marker for our community. It is not a government credential, it is not proof of anything to a third party, and it does not entitle you to any benefit outside this community.

If we have good reason to believe a verification was obtained dishonestly, we will remove Crayon status and the account.

Events, tournaments and prizes

Entry is free. No purchase is ever required and no purchase improves your odds of anything.

Each event has its own rules, posted with the event. Those rules control if they conflict with something general said here.

We can change, postpone, reschedule or cancel any event, and we can disqualify anyone for cheating, abuse or breaking the rules above.

Prizes are awarded as described. They have no cash value unless we say so, they cannot be transferred, and we may substitute a prize of similar value. Any taxes on a prize are the winner's responsibility. Winners may be asked to confirm their identity and a shipping address before anything ships. Void where prohibited.

Other services

Discord, Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, game publishers and storefronts have their own terms, and those apply to you when you use them. Getting banned by one of them for conduct can also get you removed from here.

This is not a crisis service

Nobody here is a counselor, a clinician or an emergency responder in this capacity. If you are struggling, call or text 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line, or text 838255. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.

No warranty

The site and everything on it are provided as is. We do not promise the site will be up, that an event will run, that a feature will keep working, or that anything here is free of errors.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of this site or participation in our events, and our total liability for any claim is limited to one hundred US dollars. This is a free community with no revenue, run by volunteers.

You agree to cover us for claims that come out of your own conduct or the content you post.

Ending it

You can leave whenever you want. Ask us and we will delete your record, as described in the Privacy Policy.

We can suspend or remove any account at any time, with or without a reason. There are no refunds because there are no payments.

Changes

We can update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and material changes get posted on the site and in Discord. Staying in the community after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in Texas.
