Diablo 4 Patch 3.2.3: Prime Evil Powers Lockout Fixed, but Bugged Characters Need a Workaround
Diablo 4 patch 3.2.3 closes the Splinter trap that locked players out of Prime Evil Powers, restores four Horadric Cube rerolls and frees Baal's loot. Already bugged? Here is Blizzard's workaround.

Somewhere in Sanctuary right now there is a level 70 character with a full Season 15 kit and one quest that will not finish. The player did nothing exotic. They picked up a Splinter of a Prime Evil, used it the way you use any shiny seasonal consumable, and quietly locked themselves out of the season's headline mechanic. Diablo 4 patch 3.2.3, live on October 14, closes that trap for good. It does not rescue the characters already caught in it, and that is the part you need to know.
The short version
- Diablo 4 patch 3.2.3 (Build #73883) went live on October 14, 2026 on all platforms.
- It stops characters from using a Splinter of a Prime Evil before finishing the Seasonal questline, the bug that blocked Prime Evil Powers.
- Already bugged? The fix does not repair you. Blizzard's workaround: finish the Seasonal questline on a new character in the same partition.
- Horadric Cube rerolls work again for four affixes, including Critical Strike Damage.
- Baal's loot is no longer blocked by Tyrael, and three boss and quest bugs are fixed. No balance changes, and the Hellfire Torch is untouched.
What does Diablo 4 patch 3.2.3 fix?
Blizzard's official Diablo IV patch notes list six specific bug fixes plus the usual line about "Various stability, performance, visual, and UI improvements." This is a pure bug fix patch. Nothing was buffed, nothing was nerfed.
| Fix in 3.2.3 | What was broken | Who it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Splinter of a Prime Evil | Could be used before the Seasonal questline was done, blocking the quest and Prime Evil Powers | Every seasonal player, especially new alts |
| Baal's loot | Tyrael's spawn point after the fight could make the loot hard to pick up | Anyone farming Baal |
| Sandstone Golem (Horadric Library) | Boss could fail to respawn if you died during the fight | Pushers and solo players |
| The Countess (Forgotten Tower) | She could pass through the fog wall and stall the encounter | Anyone running the Tower |
| Horadric Cube rerolls | Four affixes could not be rerolled | Endgame crafters |
| Necromancer class quest | Not all monsters dropped Unbroken Bones in Call of the Underworld | New Necromancers |
It follows a small October 6 hotfix to 3.2.2 that, per Blizzard's forum post, "Resolved an issue preventing players from claiming Horadric Parcel items."
Is the Prime Evil Powers bug fixed in Diablo 4?
Going forward, yes. The official note reads: "Fixed an issue where a character could use a Splinter of a Prime Evil before completing the Seasonal questline." Using one early prevented the character from completing the questline and from accessing Prime Evil Powers.
For context (from the fan site d4guides, not Blizzard): the three Splinters are tied to Diablo, Baal and Mephisto, and the powers they feed are named Flames of Metus, Ice of Excidium and Ghosts of Odium. Blizzard's notes do not say how many players were hit.
Our read: this was the worst kind of bug, the kind that punishes curiosity. Seasonal players are trained to pick things up and press the button. Gating the item properly is the right fix, and it should have shipped with the season.
How do I fix a bugged character after patch 3.2.3?
Here is the catch. Blizzard's developer note is blunt: "This change prevents this bug from happening but does not reset quest progress on characters who are already bugged."
The official workaround:
- Create a new character in the same partition. Partitions are Normal or Hardcore, and Normal or Solo Self-Found.
- Complete the Seasonal questline on that new character, without using a Splinter early.
- Per Blizzard, that unlocks Prime Evil Powers for all characters in that partition, including the bugged one.
So a Softcore main needs a Softcore alt. A Hardcore SSF main needs a Hardcore SSF alt. Do not run the fix in the wrong partition and wonder why nothing changed.
Our read: rolling a fresh character to repair an old one is annoying, but the payoff is account wide within the partition, and the leveling path in Season 15 is fast. If you need a refresher, our Season 15 fresh start guide covers the route to 70.
Which Horadric Cube affixes can be rerolled again?
Four affixes were stuck and are now back in the reroll pool, according to the patch notes:
- Impairment Reduction
- Barrier Generation
- +Healing
- Critical Strike Damage
Critical Strike Damage is the headline. It is a core damage stat for most crit builds, and having it stuck on a piece meant you could not chase a better roll or swap it off. Crafters who parked gear waiting on this fix can get back to the Cube.
Our read: if you have a near perfect item with one of these four affixes in a bad spot, this is the week to spend materials on it.
Baal, the Golem and the Countess
Baal. Blizzard fixed an issue where "Tyrael's spawn location after defeating Baal could make it difficult to pick up Baal's loot." The d4guides site calls Baal a major source of Mythic Uniques this season (their assessment, not an official stat), so loot you cannot click on is not a cosmetic problem.
Sandstone Golem. The Horadric Library boss could fail to respawn if you died mid fight, which soft locked attempts. That is fixed.
The Countess. In the Forgotten Tower she could walk through the fog wall, which blocked encounter progression. Also fixed.
What patch 3.2.3 does not change
There are no balance changes in this patch. The Hellfire Torch interaction that Blizzard chose to leave alone for Season 15 is still in the game; 3.2.3 does not mention it. We covered that call in detail in Hellfire Torch Stays Broken for Season 15. Blizzard has also said nothing in these notes about Season 16 timing, so treat any date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.

What this means for CNC
If you are in a CNC party this season and somebody says their Prime Evil Powers never showed up, now you know why and how to fix it: same partition, fresh character, finish the questline. It is a good excuse to roll that Necromancer you have been eyeing (our Necromancer Season 15 builds guide has the picks), and the Unbroken Bones fix means the class quest no longer drags. Squad up for Baal runs now that the loot is clickable again, and drop questions in the Discord. Everything else Diablo lives on the Diablo IV hub.
