Diablo 4 Hellfire Torch Stays Broken for Season 15: Blizzard's Call, Patch 3.2.2 and What Still Isn't Fixed

Blizzard confirmed the Hellfire Torch charm combo is unintended and is leaving it alone for Season 15. Here is the statement, every Patch 3.2.2 fix, and the bugs still waiting.

Somewhere in Sanctuary right now, a player is opening their inventory, slotting three Unique Charms into a Seal of the Golden Epiphany, then quietly swapping to the Seal of the Diamond Mind. The charms stay. The full five piece set bonus switches on. It is not supposed to work. Blizzard knows it works. And as of this week, Blizzard has decided to let it keep working.

That is the headline behind the Diablo 4 Hellfire Torch story, and it landed in the same few days as Patch 3.2.2 and a follow up hotfix. Here is what changed, what did not, and what it means for your Season 15 character.

The short version

  • Blizzard confirmed the Hellfire Torch charm interaction is unintended but will not fix it during Season 15.
  • Design Director Dan Tanguay said the team is "considering" the Torch "for the future," with nothing announced yet.
  • Patch 3.2.2 (September 30) shipped 14 specific fixes, including the seasonal questline, the Edge and Lore Runewords, and a Druid Pulverize boss lock.
  • An October 2 hotfix killed the Training Ground Elite spawning exploit and restored Moophisto loot.
  • Community reports say the Grief Runeword's Weapon Damage affix still is not applying correctly (unofficial, not in the patch notes).

Is the Diablo 4 Hellfire Torch getting nerfed?

Not this season. On September 30, community manager filthierich posted a statement from Design Director Dan Tanguay on the official Diablo IV forums. The key line, verbatim:

"While we've confirmed that this interaction is resulting in behavior beyond what was originally intended, we've decided not to make changes to it during the current season."

The reasoning is about respect for time already spent. Tanguay wrote: "We know many players have spent significant time earning the Hellfire Torch and building characters around it. Because of that, we want to be thoughtful about making adjustments mid-season that could disrupt those investments."

He also left a door open: "While we don't have anything to announce today, it is something we're considering for the future." No date, no season number, no promise. Treat any claim that the Torch is "confirmed for the base game" as speculation.

Our read: this is the right call. Pulling the rug on a chase item weeks into a season punishes the exact players who did the hardest content. Fix it at the season boundary, where everyone starts clean.

How does the Hellfire Torch charm exploit work?

As reported by Icy Veins, the trick runs through two Mythic Horadric Seals:

Step What you do What happens
1 Equip the Seal of the Golden Epiphany Lets you slot 3 Unique Charms
2 Slot three charms, including the Hellfire Torch Torch counts toward your set
3 Swap to the Seal of the Diamond Mind You keep all 3 Unique Charm effects and a full 5 piece set bonus

On its own, the Torch already brings +All Skills, +All Stats and +All Resistances and counts as an extra set charm, according to DiabloBytes. Stacking that with three Uniques and a complete set is the part Blizzard never designed. GamesRadar called the Torch a "dominant force" in the Season 15 meta.

One wrinkle: some players report the Torch's +1 Set Count failing to complete set bonuses at all, with one report from September 25 describing Berserker's Crucible dropping from 5/5 back to 4/5 while the Torch stays equipped (community reports, unofficial). If your bonus is flickering, you are not alone, and Blizzard has said it is "actively investigating" the interaction.

Earning the Torch is no small thing. It sits at the end of one of Season 15's longest secret chains, including the road to Tristram. Our Waking Nightmares field guide walks the whole path.

What did Diablo 4 Patch 3.2.2 fix?

Patch 3.2.2 (Build #73764) went live on September 30 on all platforms. These are the fixes from Blizzard's official notes, grouped by what matters most:

Area Fix
Seasonal questline Could not complete if you entered the Worldstone Chamber portal too quickly
Lester's Farm Going down the hive too quickly could block dungeon progression
Chamber of Bone Completing it did not give rewards
Edge Runeword Allowed two items at a time from the Purveyor of Curiosities
Lore Runeword Made the helm invisible
Nihlathak Could teleport outside the Boss Arena
Henri's Perquisition Unique Charm could not be crafted in the Horadric Cube
Druid Pulverize could indefinitely immobilize a Staggered boss
Sorcerer Incinerate Enchantment burning damage did not trigger the Tal rune
Runes Sol Rune damage reduction did not activate when expected
The Tower Artificer's Obelisk rewards did not show on the map and minimap
UI Leaderboard button visible in Eternal on controller; pinned currency not highlighted
Misc Mounted players could not interact with the Horadric Post

Our read: the Edge Runeword fix is the one that will sting. If you were doubling up at the Purveyor, that gravy train is gone. The Pulverize fix will matter to Druids who leaned on permanent boss lockdown in pushes.

What did the October 2 hotfix change?

Blizzard posted a short 3.2.2 hotfix on October 2 with two fixes:

  • "Fixed an issue that allowed players to spawn Elite monsters inside Training Ground dungeons."
  • "Fixed an issue where Moophisto was not dropping loot as intended."

Per Icy Veins, the Training Ground exploit leaned on the Nemesis Bracers to farm Elites over and over for loot and reputation. That loop is closed. Moophisto, meanwhile, should be back to dropping the Bovine Bell and Udder's Milk.

Which Season 15 bugs are still not fixed?

Two that the community keeps raising, neither mentioned in the official notes:

  • Grief: its "+750 to +1,000 Weapon Damage affix does not appear to be applying correctly," according to community testing reported by Diabloz. Unofficial, but worth knowing before you burn runes on one.
  • Hellfire Torch set count: the flickering 5/5 reports above. Blizzard's statement covers the Torch interaction broadly, but there is no patch note for this specific behavior yet.

Our read: until Blizzard says otherwise, do not build your season around Grief's damage number. Test it against your current weapon first.

What this means for CNC

If you earned the Torch, run it. It is safe for the rest of Season 15, and Blizzard has said so in writing. If you are still chasing it, it is still worth the climb, so squad up for the Tristram chain in our Discord rather than soloing it. Everyone else: re-run any seasonal quest step that bugged on you, and check the Diablo IV hub for builds that do not depend on a Torch. New this season?
