Battlefield 6 Free Trial: Every Map and Mode Free Until October 19, and When It Ends

The Battlefield 6 free trial unlocks every map and mode, Season 5 included, on Steam and PlayStation. Here are the exact cutoff times and the fine print.

Somewhere tonight a squad leader is going to type "it's free, just download it" into a group chat, and for once that will be true. The Battlefield 6 free trial is live right now on Steam and PlayStation, and it is not the limited sampler of earlier trials. EA's own wording on Steam is blunt: "Every available map and mode is free to play." That includes Season 5's brand new Vegas Strip and Area 51, three days after they landed.

The catch is the clock. The trial closes on October 19, and the exact cutoff depends on where you play. Here is everything EA has confirmed, what it has not, and why this weekend matters if you have been waiting on the fence.

The short version

  • The Battlefield 6 Full Game Trial runs until October 19, 2026 on Steam and PlayStation.
  • Steam: October 15, 17:00 UTC to October 19, 17:00 UTC. PlayStation: October 14, 15:00 UTC to October 19, 20:00 UTC.
  • Every available map and mode is included, Season 5 content too.
  • There is no Xbox trial, but Battlefield 6 joined Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on October 13.
  • You need an EA account, and the trial can be played once per EA account.

When does the Battlefield 6 free trial end?

EA's legal disclaimers page lists two different windows, so check which one is yours.

Platform Trial opens (UTC) Trial closes (UTC) Closes (US Eastern)
Steam Oct 15, 17:00 Oct 19, 17:00 Oct 19, 1:00 PM
PlayStation Oct 14, 15:00 Oct 19, 20:00 Oct 19, 4:00 PM
Xbox No trial listed
EA app / Epic No trial listed

EA adds that "Trial time is subject to change and may vary by platform; see retailer site for details." Steam players lose access three hours before PlayStation players, which is the detail most people will miss on Sunday night into Monday. Joining late does not extend your window.

Our read: if you are on Steam, treat Monday morning as the hard stop. Get your sessions in Friday through Sunday.

Is Battlefield 6 free to play on Xbox?

Not through this trial. EA's disclaimer names only "PlayStation, and Steam platforms." Xbox players have a different door: Battlefield 6 arrived on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on October 13, per Xbox Wire's October lineup. Game Pass Ultimate includes EA Play, which also gets members an EA Play Deployment Pack, the Season 5 EA Play Pack and 10% off eligible EA digital purchases.

If you are on Xbox without Game Pass, there is no free full game option right now. REDSEC, the free to play battle royale side, is still there as it has been.

What is included in the Battlefield 6 trial?

Everything that is live. The Steam announcement says "Every available map and mode is free to play," and EA's Season 5 roadmap calls it the "Battlefield 6 Full Game Trial." That is a real change from earlier trials, which press coverage describes as limited to a handful of maps and playlists.

That means you get the Season 5 launch content that went live on October 13 with Update 2.1.1.0:

  • Vegas Strip, the big new all out warfare map built for open sightlines and large vehicle fights
  • Area 51, the guarded base map
  • Rapid Royale
  • The new Season 5 weapons, plus every core mode like Conquest, Breakthrough and Domination

If you want a head start on the new maps, our Area 51 and Vegas Strip guide walks every objective. For the full launch list, see everything in Season 5 at launch.

Our read: this is the best possible version of a trial. New players are not stuck on old maps, and returning players can see whether Season 5 fixed what pushed them away.

Does trial progress carry over if you buy Battlefield 6?

EA has not said so for this specific trial. The disclaimer page for the October trial does not mention progression. The closest official answer is EA's Season 2 free trial guide from March 10, 2026, which said "All that progress also carries over to the full Battlefield 6 experience upon purchase," and that players who did not buy could keep playing REDSEC while "keeping any unlocks you earned during the free trial period."

Our expectation is that the same rules apply, but that is our inference, not an EA statement. One more thing EA does confirm: "Additional in-game content may be available for purchase and is available for continued use in the full game," and "purchased content will not be refunded upon completion of the trial." Buy skins during a trial only if you are already sure.

What you need to play

EA lists the requirements plainly:

  • A persistent internet connection, an EA account and acceptance of the EA User Agreement
  • On PC, "Installation of the EA app" may be required, even through Steam
  • On console, "Access on console platforms may require a premium console account or subscription (sold separately)."
  • The trial "can be played once per EA account"

Is there a Battlefield 6 sale right now?

There are press reports of a discount, but we could not confirm it on an official page. EGW.News reports the Standard Edition is up to 60% off until October 20, listing $27.99 on Steam (down from $69.99). Treat that as unofficial until you see the price in your own store.

Why now? The Season 5 progression fight

The trial lands in a noisy week. Players spent Season 5's first days complaining about slower progression, with widely shared community reports of weapon XP being capped at 300 per minute (a community figure, never confirmed by EA). On October 16, outlets including Eurogamer and Explosion reported that Battlefield Studios reversed the change and called it "unintended." Players are also reporting a double XP boost after the fix. EA has not published a full breakdown, so treat the exact numbers as unofficial.

Our read: the timing is good for trial players. If the rollback holds, newcomers this weekend get normal progression, not the throttled version that soured launch week. Whether the fix was planned or not, a free weekend is a bad time to make grinding feel worse, and EA seems to know it.

What is coming after the trial?

EA's Season 5 roadmap lays out the next beats:

  • Dead Space Convergence Event, a limited time crossover arriving "This Halloween" (no exact date yet)
  • Casino Heist Update on November 10
  • Platoons with the Frozen Aces Update on December 8

Keep an eye on our Battlefield 6 hub for each one.

What this means for CNC

This is the easiest recruiting weekend we will get all season. If you have a buddy from your unit, your station or your family who keeps saying "maybe later," the price of later is zero until Sunday night. Send them the Steam or PlayStation link, get them in a squad, and run Conquest on Vegas Strip together. A new player with a patient squad learns more in one night than in a week of solo matches. Post in the CNC community that you are bringing a trial player, and we will make room.
