Letter · The Sleeper

Fenring’s Notes — The Sleeper

They call him Naïm al-Hadir among the Fremen.

An offworld operative sent to locate them—so the surface story goes. In practice, he embedded, adapted, and was accepted. Efficient. Concerning.

The Tleilaxu designation is more instructive: a late-generation ghola derived from the genetic line of Tyros Reffa. One of many. One iteration among dozens I have personally collected. And yet, this one diverged.

Most fail to awaken. A few awaken poorly. The fifth generation… regrettable. Brilliant, directed, and entirely unhinged. This one functions and appears to have gone rogue.

He learned their ways. Earned their trust. Was given a name: Alnaëm. The Sleeper.

The Fremen see prophecy. The Tleilaxu see validation.

I see a compromised asset—one mistaking proximity for belonging.

Such things feel dangerous.

They are not.

They are correctable.
