REDSEC Right Now and Battlefield 6 Season 5: Ranked, the Phantom Program, Cash Cups and the Road to Vegas
Ranked Battle Royale got a reset, proximity chat launched and got pulled, there's a secret operation at Fort Lyndon, and Season 5 is heading to Las Vegas. Here's everything happening in Battlefield right now.
There's a lot going on in Battlefield between now and winter. Here's the full picture: what's live in REDSEC, what got pulled, what's worth grinding, and what's actually confirmed for Season 5.
Ranked Battle Royale, Season 4
Ranked got a fresh season with a competitive leaderboard and permanent rank-themed skins. The number one player in the Elite 250 gets the exclusive "S4 Eliminator" skin.
The rank reset:
Rookie becomes Rookie I
Bronze and Silver become Bronze I
Gold and Platinum become Silver I
Diamond and Master become Gold I
The rule changes:Vehicle Keycards, MBTs and IFVs are gone from Ranked. Regular BR still has them.
Confirmed assists now count the same as kills for Rank Points.
The kill and assist cap went from 4 to 8, but anything past the cap now pays only 10 percent (it used to be 50).
The top 22 squads now earn RP, up from the top 14.
Entry costs went up.
You can only squad with players within two ranks of you.
As of 1.4.3.0, the pre-lobby leave penalty grace period went from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, and there's now an AFK kick with warnings, reporting for inactive teammates and escalating penalties for bailing on competitive matches. Good. Leavers ruin ranked.
Proximity chat: here, then gone
Proximity chat launched in REDSEC Battle Royale with 1.4.3.0 on September 15. Up to four nearby players could be heard at once, the audio was directional, and walls, interiors and vehicles muffled it.
Then it got pulled. On September 18, Battlefield Comms said it's staying disabled while they investigate, with no return date. EA had said it would come to regular multiplayer later, also with no date. The same round of fixes did stabilize REDSEC matchmaking.
The Phantom Program
This is the fun one. A limited-time REDSEC operation at Fort Lyndon, live since September 15. You hunt hidden intel and easter eggs and collect access code fragments for XP, weapon packages and other rewards.
According to BoostingFactory's walkthrough (not official, so follow at your own risk):
- Open 30 Dark Ops crates.
- Play 10 Battle Royale matches.
- Find the Blacklight Pistol near the crashed aircraft carrier and use it to reveal a hidden Phantom message.
- Decrypt it and grab the encryption device.
- Win matches, repeating the sequence across three wins in a row.
- Open the underground bunker and defend a terminal for about eight minutes.
It works in Solos, Duos and Quads, but only in regular Battle Royale, not Casual or Portal. This is a perfect squad project.
Deep Six: grab the knife
The Deep Six collection event runs September 15 to October 12 in both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. Complete contracts and collect intel devices to earn weapon packages, with the Royal Navy Dive Knife as the final reward. Top Gun's Carrier Strike and Fighter Sweep are also extended through the rest of Season 4, and King of the Hill and Domination are now Verified Portal modes.
Money on the line: Cash Cups and the Elite Series
EA's competitive REDSEC circuit is running now:
- Season 4 Cash Cups, September 19 to October 10: $150,000 total, $50,000 per region (Americas, EMEA, APAC). Cups on September 19 ($5K), September 26 ($10K), October 3 ($10K) and October 10 ($25K).
- Open Series, October 24 to November 21: up to 384 teams per cup per region, feeding slots into the Elite Series. Americas gets 15 slots.
- Elite Series, December 4, 2026 to January 16, 2027: 48 teams per region and a $1,338,000 prize pool, $446,000 per region. Finals January 16.
If anyone in CNC wants to put a competitive quad together, now's the time to start practicing.
Season 5: what's confirmed
Season 5 has slipped from fall to winter 2026, with no exact date yet. Season 4 is estimated to wrap around October 20, but that's unofficial.
Confirmed by EA:
- Three new maps: one infantry-focused and two combined-arms.
- Platoons of up to 100 members, with leadership tools, tags and XP bonuses for playing together. EA says Platoons will roll out "progressively across several seasons."
- A server browser with official servers, full progression and matchmaking backfill. It arrives in Season 5 Phase 3, after Battlefield Labs testing.
- Multiplayer leaderboards.
- Reworks of Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, later in the season.
- Rapid Royale, a new REDSEC mode with smaller lobbies, faster circles and shorter matches.
The Vegas tease: on September 8, EA released official artwork showing the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign. That partly confirms one of the new maps.
Still not dated: Multiplayer Ranked. EA says it's planned for after Season 4 but has no firm window.
The rumor pile (unconfirmed)
A dataminer pulled these from Battlefield Labs files. MP1st says they're "in no way official," so treat them as rumor:
- Map codenames "Paradise" (the Vegas Strip), "Drylake" (Area 51) and "Dough" (a European casino).
- A Dead Space Halloween cosmetic collab tied to Area 51.
- A Medal of Honor collab.
- Rapid Royale on the Vegas Strip with redeploy tokens.
Only the Vegas setting has any official backing.
What this means for CNC
Between the Phantom Program, Deep Six and a ranked reset that rewards teamwork, this is a great month to run REDSEC as a squad. And when Platoons land in Season 5, CNC will have one on day one. Watch the ops board.
